Yours is a very interesting take on the whole "blogging Ultima" concept, because you try to approach it from the perspective of your character and really flesh out the experience of each game by writing about it from an in-fiction perspective. It's engaging, and even revealing at times; it brings out so much richness from the story of each game in the series.

And it's been great having you on SSSH, as well; I don't think the podcast would have turned out anywhere near as interesting without the involvement of others, and you've been a big contributor to that.Time Immortalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651776432920992231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241816870477983024.post-43245884568761502842015-10-02T19:18:53.132-07:002015-10-02T19:18:53.132-07:00He does seem rather ideal - heading up a ceremony ...He does seem rather ideal - heading up a ceremony like that, he must have quite the track record among his people, chosen to save his people from the False Prophet in such a manner. I expect I'd have a similar experience with Exult - I played through Ultima VII and Serpent Isle using it, but that was... oh goodness, almost ten years ago by this point? I'm sure a lot's changed since then.

I should really take the time to take a closer look at the both of them one of these days - I don't plan on using Exult for my runs for the blog, but hey, might be worth a post or two after I've made my way through the series. I used this on my most recent play-through and though there were admittedly some minor differences/bugs (the balloon was more difficult to control for example), all the other improvements made for a very smooth run.

I'm also not a fan of the arrangements of U4's music that were included in the U4 Upgrade. Hurin put together a package for Xu4 that provides improved arrangements recorded on the Roland Sound Canvas (http://www.dor-lomin.com/?p=710). I also made some alternate arrangements recorded with the RealSound GS soundfont on the SB Live: http://exodus.voyd.net/zips/ (see xu4-voyd-music and u4up-voyd-music)

Anyway, I'm slowly catching up with your latest posts. I started this venture partly out of desire to finish the Ultima games that I never had before, and partly because I wanted to get a better sense of the series as it developed, an idea of its story as a whole. Starting from the beginning and progressing chronologically was the best way for me to do that, and blogging the experience has been a way for me to organize my thoughts on such and to make sure I stick with it. In the end, it's all about what you're looking to do - and if you're inspired to give Ultima V a go again, then by all means, go for it!

I will say that there is indeed a pretty stark difference between the first three games and the rest of the series, and they can be a bit difficult to get into at first, but they can surprise you if you give them the opportunity. I enjoyed Ultima III far more than I expected to once I got used to how the game worked, and wouldn't mind giving it another whirl with a different party format.Linguistic Dragonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13246332346527264632noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241816870477983024.post-64487221799912448262015-04-16T07:54:02.893-07:002015-04-16T07:54:02.893-07:00Oh yeah, here's my writeup on it, too. :P

That leaves me the original trilogy, 5, Underworld 2, Savage Empire, and Martian Dreams. Getting into 1, 2, and 3 at all I'm debating because, well, it's 1, 2, and 3.
