Welcome to Ultima Journeys! This is, in short, a record of my exploits through the Ultima series of computer games. For those unfamiliar with the series, they're fantasy games developed from the beginning of the 80's all the way through the late 90's, with a spiritual successor Shroud of the Avatar in development. The series spans ten games in the main series, four spinoff games, and a predecessor that practically everybody considers 'Ultima 0.' My intent is to play them all, in chronological order, and since it's apparently something of a vague tradition at this point, when I decided to do so, I also decided to chronicle my way through them via this blog.
And who am I? I've gone by many names through my travails on the internet, but the Ultima community knows me as Linguistic Dragon, the name that I took when I joined the main internet 'fanclub' for the series, the Ultima Dragons and chosen due to the fact my degree's in linguistics - I'm enough of a language nerd that I've even done some dissecting of Gargish, a fictional language in the series, here on this blog. In addition, I've become a regular panelist on the podcast of the Ultima Codex, Spam Spam Spam Humbug, in which we discuss various topics about the series, retro games, and gaming in general on the approximate schedule of once a week, give or take. We have ourselves a grand old time, so if that's your sort of thing, check it out!
If you want to get a hold of me for whatever reason, there's venues for doing so off to the right. Whatever brought you here and however long you poke around, glad you came by!
